Does Article 50 actually apply to my small business?

How will the EU actually enforce this — will anyone really check my site?

Enforcement operates at two levels. First, the European AI Office coordinates compliance across member states and has the mandate to investigate systemic non-compliance — including web-facing AI systems. Second, national authorities in each EU country are empowered to investigate complaints and conduct their own inspections. Regulators do not need to visit your office. A complaint from a user, a journalist, or a competitor is enough to trigger a review. As of April 2026, 78% of businesses have not taken meaningful steps toward compliance — enforcement attention will follow that gap. The safest position is a documented disclosure record you can produce immediately if asked.

My chatbot provider already shows a label — do I still need to do anything?

Possibly, but you cannot rely on your provider alone. Article 50 places the disclosure obligation on the deployer — that is you, the business running the website — not only the chatbot platform. Your provider may show a generic label, but you remain responsible for ensuring that disclosure is clear, distinguishable, and appears at first interaction on your specific site. You also have no proof that it fired for your visitors on a given date. That documented record is your responsibility.
